First look: capturing the design process for MUNCH, choosing the right type of wood, and a vision zero
Behind the scenes: designing for a world-class museum
The new Munch Museum in Oslo opened recently and, together with Norwegian designers Andreas Engesvik and Jonas Ravlo Stokke, we have created a custom furniture series for the museum. In this video, you can follow the entire design process from sketches to
finished product.
Choosing the right materials is a vital stage in ensuring that products are durable and can last for decade after decade. At Vestre, we use timber from one of the world’s most sustainable forestry sectors. We offer four different types of wood and, in this article, you can learn about the properties of these and their recommended areas of use.
Expanding our VIA series: Better, wider and LED-lighter
The VIA series consists of straight and curved seating modules that can either stand alone or be joined together in rows, formations or circles. The modules can be made particularly atmospheric at night by fitting energy-saving LED lights under the seats.
We are now introducing a new, wider backrest whose
elegant, curved form gives a comfortable and supportive feel. The inviting design is further enhanced by the use of durable horizontal wooden panels, available in several different options. The backrest fits both the straight and curved benches in the Via series and can be retrofitted.
November is the month of Black Friday—the biggest throw-away day in the year. When buying something new, it can be tempting to choose the cheapest option. However, if we are to make better choices and move away from the consumerism that dominates today’s society, we need to shift focus. We should all choose products according to their quality and longevity. They might have a slightly higher initial cost, but they will actually be the cheapest option in
the long run, as they normally last much longer. Here at Vestre, we have a vision zero, which is to never make a single product that can’t last forever. Here’s just a few of them.
